Designs For Living: The Domestic Object

V&A Dundee, Scotland, 2025

Domestic objects form part of our everyday lives and the choices we make about these type of artefacts affects the way we Iive. A study of the domestic object offers us the opportunity to reflect on how the home and roles within the home have changed over time. In this work students consider aspects of design history and material culture through the lens of the domestic object touching on both western and non-western contexts.

Carafe and Cup, ceramic, 2025

With an interest in mental and sensual stimulation through interactive design, I have hand built a functional water carafe and cup which encourage sensory play. The carafe is wrapped in handmade tactile beads of varying textures, colours and patterns, which contrast with the glaze on the carafe and make an interesting noise against it. The collection features a playful splatter effect, and the cup has an interior rim designed to enhance both visual and auditory experience as water is poured.

Lichen, oxidised copper, 2023

An oxidised copper brooch reflecting the patterns and forms in lichen – an extremely resiliant organism that can grow anywhere in many conditions. Lichen is one of the gems of nature that fights against circumstances that would kill many plants and organisms.
